Easily trim the brake oil pipe to ensure the safety of the braking system

Nowadays, more and more road bikes are equipped with hydraulic disc brake systems, which can provide better braking effect and feel, while greatly improving riding safety, especially on long-distance downhill sections. However, in many original hydraulic disc brake systems, there are often some issues with the length and routing of the oil pipes, resulting in chaotic vehicle routing. Therefore, this article will introduce how to trim the brake oil pipe for your reference.

The following are the specific operational steps:

1. Dismantling the blade:

 First, remove the pin that secures the blade and remove the snap spring on the pin. Then use a 3mm hexagonal socket to unscrew the pin from the clamp. After removing the plug, remove the locking plate and spring plate, and place the locking plate in a safe place where it will not stick to the oil.

2. Reset the piston:

 After removing the pin, insert the piston locator into the clamp to fully reset the piston.

3. Preparatory work:

After completing the above operations, slide the rubber sleeve covering the end of the oil pipe upwards to expose the screw of the oil pipe joint.
4. Loosen the detachable oil pipe joint: Use an 8mm open-end wrench to rotate the oil pipe joint screw counterclockwise and completely loosen it. Then slide the screw upwards, which can be reused.
5. Cut off the oil pipe: Calculate and reserve the required length of the oil pipe, and then use an oil pipe cutter to cut off the oil pipe. Be sure to cut it flat, otherwise oil leakage may occur during later use.
6. Install a new oil needle: Apply a small amount of lubricating grease when installing the oil needle. Then use a T8 Phillips wrench to screw the brand new oil needle into the oil pipe. Check if the oil needle is screwed in place and if there is any gap at the connection position with the oil pipe.
7. Put on the olive sleeve and wipe off excess brake fluid: Place a new olive sleeve on the end of the oil pipe and wipe off excess brake fluid on the oil pipe.
8. Reinsert oil pipe: Reinsert the oil pipe into the clamp oil pipe installation position, and then tighten the oil pipe joint screw with an 8mm open-end wrench to prevent oil leakage.
9. Reinstall the blade: Cover the rubber sleeve on the screw and reinstall the blade back into the clamp. After installation, repeatedly test the brake and check for oil leakage. This method is also applicable to the hydraulic disc brake system of mountain bikes.
